Building Information Modeling

Walter P Moore is a pioneer in the use of BIM in project delivery. We have aggressively and creatively incorporated various platforms from Autodesk, Bentley, Trimble, McNeel, and Nemetschek into our processes.  We started our BIM journey 15 years ago and we continually investigate new offerings and new methods to best serve the team’s needs in providing better project outcomes.

Our staff is well versed in a variety of tools, and based on industry-wide adoption by our partners and clients, our primary tools include Navisworks, Sketchup, Rhino, Revit Structure, Tekla, Civil 3D, Infraworks, Microstation, and associated products and add-ons.  To date, we have delivered over 1,000 projects in BIM, from the smallest interior fit-out to our multi-office mega-projects.  The latest knowledge and tools are shared amongst all offices using robust internal SharePoint-hosted communities.   Firm-wide standards, tools, and templates are maintained and shared through SharePoint and dynamic file replication.  All users have access to internal power users for implementation advice, custom tool development, or even project retrospective reviews where models are reviewed critically providing the project team with feedback to deliver the next project even better.  Ultimately, our focus on BIM is for continual improvement in the development of our data-rich work processes and solutions.

Civil 3D

These 3D drawings were used to sequence construction of utility lines replacement for a new campus development.

Applying 3D BIM outside of the building to coordinate and design dense and complex utilities in a data center generator yard.

Some of our project managers leverage Sketchup for rapid prototyping of connections.

We routinely develop pricing information from informal models.

Entire deliverables can be created quickly inside of Sketchup.


We use Rhino early in designs, leveraging its parametric plug-in Grasshopper for a variety of tasks.

Rendered models of connections convey the complexity and the desired aesthetic.

A variety of architectural forms and shapes can quickly be studied using Rhino.

Revit Structure

Long-span steel and curved architectural elements can require custom components or geometry control.

Depending on the needs of the client or downstream user, our deliverables are created inside of Tekla.

Tekla’s macros and ability to create repetitive custom connections allows us to quickly model very complex conditions.

Even where it isn’t the primary platform for delivery, custom interoperability allows us to push models into and out of Tekla for constructability checks like installation clearances and bolt access.
