Why are you an engineer?
In civil engineering, I can use problem solving skills to analyze, design and build something practical, something I can see and feel. It is an amazing profession in which you can drive down the road and see the impact of what you do each day.

What’s the most interesting work you’ve done here so far?
We worked on a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) project in El Paso, Texas that recommends safe places for school children to walk and bike to school. We examined routes along with early morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups at 48 elementary schools and identified barriers to kids’ safe travel. We prepared comprehensive reports for each school that show existing conditions, recommended safe routes and proposed improvements. It was a great hands-on project from a traffic engineering perspective and provided an extraordinary opportunity to impacts the lives of others.
How does engineering make a difference in the world?
We improve people’s quality of life, one project at a time, many times in the most unnoticeable ways—making sure that pavement is marked correctly, road signs are worded accurately, and traffic signals operate. We keep our communities moving.
