Why are you an engineer?
I’m fascinated by the forces of nature and have an aptitude for mathematics and the physical sciences. This set me on the path towards a career in structural engineering.

What’s the most interesting work you’ve done here so far?
Determining the wind load capacity of a hyperbolic natural draft cooling tower has been the most exciting project. The geometry and size of the tower — hyperbolic in elevation, circular in plan and weighing about 25,000 tons — presented unique challenges. The analysis incorporated materially nonlinear reinforced concrete behavior, large deformation effects, and a three-dimensional wind pressure distribution over the tower shell’s entire surface. With a typical analysis taking eight to ten hours to complete and a strict project deadline, this was indeed a challenging project.

How does engineering make a difference in the world?
It’s quite simple – civilization wouldn’t exist as it does without engineering!
