What has been the most interesting work you’ve done here so far?
I’ve been fortunate to work on a wide variety of projects including a pro-bono hospitality apartment project, a public roadway and a $75-million life sciences building. I served on the 2006 Infrastructure Technology Task Force, helping shape how we use the most leading-edge software to design, produce and deliver our projects. Leveraging these technologies is vital to transforming our client’s design visions into something that can be physically built.

How does engineering make a difference in the world?
Looking at Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath, it’s easy to realize engineers have an enormous role in community safety, from designing drainage systems to traffic planning for mass evacuations. And look at new buildings, sports facilities, large infrastructure projects—the work engineers do positively influences our economy and make our lives safer, easier and enjoyable.

What inspired you to go into engineering?
I was given a writing assignment in high school on my career goals (when they were the last things on my mind). I researched several professions but it wasn’t until I read about people who designed and created roadways, utilities, drainage systems and traffic methods—civil engineers—that I became interested. I got an A on my paper.
