"A new major league baseball park being built for the Florida Marlins in Miami’s Little Havana challenged designers to invent an entirely new generation roof design and operating approach. Structural engineer Walter P Moore, working closely with Populous and the Marlins, drew on their experience with five previous retractable roof stadiums to create a multi-functional roof structure that won’t overwhelm its residential neighborhood. When it opens in 2012, the ballpark will utilize an innovative storm operating strategy to economically survive major hurricanes. On top of that, the roof will even create flexible pre-game shade space for fans and be used to extend the life of the grass field..."
