"You’ve heard the promises: better coordinated drawings; engineering and CADD models that are one and the same; fewer RFIs; reduced litigation. Building Information Modeling, or BIM, has burst onto the design and construction scene. Owners are beginning to demand BIM on their projects, governmental agencies are mandating BIM for new projects, and contractors are now requesting information in digital form rather than drawing form. Though BIM is ubiquitous in the industry press and literature and many are extolling its virtues, BIM is still in its infancy and it still has a long way to go before it meets the lofty expectations of its proponents.
