HOUSTON, TX – The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) has named WALTER P MOORE as a Commendation Award Winner for Sports Structures in the Structural Awards 2007 Ceremony for its role in the design of the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The ceremony took place at Lawrence Hall in London, England on Nov. 14. The IStructE Awards are the world’s pre-eminent awards for structural engineering excellence. Since 1968, these annual awards have celebrated the work of the most talented structural designers and their indispensable contribution to the built environment. WALTER P MOORE provided structural engineering services for the new 63,400-seat, $455-million stadium. It features two of the largest moving parts in sports history: the country’s first completely retractable grass field and the first inclined retractable roof. The 2.2-acre field, which spends most of the year outdoors in a giant steel tray, can be wheeled in on tracks in just over an hour. And the two 550-ton retractable roof panels feed power back into the electrical grid as they slide open. |
A national engineering and consulting firm, WALTER P MOORE creates solutions that help clients turn their ideas into structures and infrastructures that work. WALTER P MOORE is consistently recognized for great client service, engineering excellence and as a “best place to work.” In 2006, the firm celebrated its 75th anniversary.
