Efficient seismic office solution

Walter P Moore provided structural engineering concepts and design services for this 23 level office building located on the Periferico in Mexico City. The 27,500 square meter (300,000 SF) facility features 17 levels of office space over six garage levels. Because the building is located in Mexico City's seismic zone, known as "zona de transicion" (the transition zone), the building was designed by Walter P Moore to meet Mexico's Seismic Zone II criteria. Superstructure construction was completed in early 1996.

Walter P Moore utilized a structural steel frame with composite columns and composite shear walls to create an economical frame which combined the stiffness and economy of concrete with the construction speed of steel. We analyzed the dynamic performance of the building using state of the art techniques to maximize tenant comfort and safety. The building's steel weight of 60kg/m2 (12 lbs/SF) is considered very light for a Seismic Zone II moment frame building in Mexico, saving money and helping to reduce the building's seismic loads.

We utilized rolled W40 steel beam shapes for this building, providing economical column-free floor framing.
