ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE EROSION CONTROL

Duck Creek Erosion Control Phase III
Richardson, Texas

An accelerated schedule and the incorporation of aesthetic elements helped this erosion control project result in client and citizen approval.

This erosion remediation consists of six concrete weirs, creation of two ponds, establishment of five duck habitat areas and updating the existing out-of-date FEMA hydraulic model. We provided erosion control, hydraulics and hydrology expertise and brought in a landscape architect to provide the duck habitat design.

The resulting design had a stone slab cascade rather than the stamped concrete design of the previous phases. Concrete aprons were replaced with buried gabion mattress overlain with a permanent geosynthetic erosion mat and planted with vegetation capable of withstanding the wet conditions with periodic overtopping.
