CROSSING BRIDGES

Spring Creek Hydrologic and Hydraulic Analysis and Bridge Design
College Station, Texas

Designing a bridge along Arrington Road over Spring Creek required coordination with FEMA and the city's floodplain administrator as it crossed a FEMA-designated flood plain.

A hydraulic analysis was performed to comply with TxDOT design criteria. The hydrologic model was developed using HEC-HMS and GIS data. Hydraulic analyses for the bridge were performed using HEC-RAS and met both TxDOT and FEMA standards. All hydraulics were modeled first under unsteady state flow conditions. From the unsteady state analysis the inflow and outflow of the detention basin through two overflow weirs were calculated for input into the steady state analysis. A new floodplain map was produced from the proposed conditions that included ultimate development of the watershed. The proposed floodplain map will be used for a future Letter of Map Revision (LOMR).
