TWO PURPOSES,
ONE NATURAL SOLUTION

SYSCO Office Campus

Our designs for the new headquarters of Sysco Foods included a detention basin and storm sewer system to provide storm water quality and flood mitigation. The project won an award in 2008 from the U.S. Green Building Council's Houston area chapter for best environmental team.

In this innovative design, storm water quality control volume passes through a forebay, sand filter and an under drain system to the outfall structure. The outlet structure allows flood flow to bypass the treatment system. During frequent rain events, flow will always be from the detention basin to the Buffalo Bayou. However, during extreme events, the water surface elevation at Buffalo Bayou will control the flow to the basin.
