Three Rivers Federal Prison
Three Rivers, Texas
This 1200-bed, $42 million Federal Correctional Institution Facility
on a
303-acre site has unique civil and structural engineering
design that earned it an AIA/ACA Architecture for Justice Award.
Our special drainage design eliminates the need for storm sewers, and a wastewater treatment facility utilizes spray irrigation to discharge the treated effluent. A 286,000-gallon water storage doubles as a reservoir and combination domestic and fire protection system.
Our environmentally sensitive design protects natural habitat areas while creating other new habitats. Creative value engineering was required to take the prototype facility and reduce the cost by approximately $10 million while adding a 300,000-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment facility to the original facility.
Structural systems utilized both structural steel and precast concrete modular cell units. These save time and provide functional architectural finishes and details.
