AN OPEN INTERIOR AND SIGNIFICANT COST SAVING

FIVE HOUSTON CENTER
HOUSTON, TEXAS

Our civil, structural and traffic engineering services helped speed the erection of this Class A office building of 975,000 square feet, 19 levels of office and eight levels of parking and also provided the owner a savings of $1.2 million.

The building has an efficient concrete moment frame as its lateral force resisting system, making the building far more economical than one utilizing shearwalls. The elimination of shearwalls also creates a more open interior feel and maximizes tenant lease space. The structural frame economy was also accomplished with high-strength reinforcing steel, high strength concrete and optimized formwork considerations.

Infrastructure work for the project included traffic impact studies, pedestrian air rights, vault rights and site design. Utility connections presented a challenge as special connections were made into the deep tunnel system.
