AN AESTHETIC EXPANSION

GARMIN WAREHOUSE AND OFFICE TOWER
OLATHE, KANSAS

A precast office building and garage show their aesthetic beauty at the international headquarters for Garmin International. We provided structural and civil engineering services for the $60-million expansion program completed in 2004.

The eight-story office tower connects to an existing two-story office building with a three-level connector. The building is clad with precast concrete panels, curtain wall, metal panel and storefront. An elegant 2500-seat, column-free, two-story sloping auditorium provides a modern meeting and training space. High strength concrete and reinforcing steel were used throughout to minimize rebar congestion and maximize economy.

The efficient structural system for the $8-million, tri-level, 1,050-vehicle parking garage is a cast-in-place concrete system consisting of a one-way post-tensioned slab, supported by post-tensioned girders. The typical bay spans 20 feet by 56. The exterior skin is architectural precast.
