LET THERE BE LIGHT

UNION PACIFIC CENTER
OMAHA, NEBRASKA

Union Pacific wanted to bring its 4,000 employees into one cost-effective, light-filled environment that complemented other architecture in Downtown Omaha. We provided complete structural engineering services for this modern, attractive headquarters that encompasses an entire downtown block.

We prepared six proposed schemes to help the owner, the developer and the design team select an appropriate structural system. A composite steel floor system with braced frames around the atrium was chosen for its economy and intended use. A six-story-tall Vierendeel frame spans 90 feet over the building entry and terrace. The 1.3 million-square-foot headquarters required 7,100 tons of structural steel.

The $260-million building features a dramatic, center atrium that extends the full height of the building and provides natural daylight into the core of the building.
