Fox Cities Performing Arts Center
Appleton, Wisconsin

The $45-million Fox Cities Performing Arts Center features a 2,100-seat hall with seating at orchestra level and three balcony levels and a flexible black-box theater that seats up to 500 people.

The site is adjacent to an active railroad track that presented significant vibration and acoustical challenges. To restrict the transmission of vibrations and noise into the theater, we designed a three-foot-thick concrete mat and two-foot-thick concrete walls to be used throughout the foundation system.

To provide the best acoustical barrier, cast-in-place concrete was used for the primary structure of the hall and the seating structure. A series of 120-foot-long roof trusses support a concrete and metal deck roof slab that spans across the auditorium.

The exterior wall system consists of precast panels and masonry, supported on resilient connections, minimizing the transmission of vibration into the building.
