Shining the Light on Live Events
Sprint Center
Kansas City, Missouri
Our structural design for Sprint Center includes a unique façade with an elegant curtain wall support system that allows patrons inside to see the surrounding cityscape, while those outside can see in.
The $276-million Sprint Center is the centerpiece for downtown’s Kansas City Power and Light District. The 18,500-seat, multipurpose arena can accommodate various entertainment and sports events and hosted 140 events in its first year.
Our structural engineering design helped the project win the 2009 Grand Conceptor award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)/Missouri.
- The roof system gives extensive new flexibility in stage configurations and show rigging, yet the roof has a low profile. The roof design reduced roof steel tonnage, erection complexity and cost.
- The variable rise seating gives patrons optimal views.
- Sprint Center’s exterior cladding system of vertical and horizontal steel pipe curves both vertically and horizontally around the arena’s entire perimeter.
