Prairie View A&M University

Prairie View, Texas

Prairie View A&M's first female engineering graduate has been honored with this $20.1-million, 105,000-gross-square-foot, three-story architecture building and 122-seat cultural center.

The structure consists of cast-in-place concrete beam and slab framing, including a suspended ground floor due to the presence of expansive soils. The building is supported on a drilled pier foundation.

Design features of the building include serpentine racking brick masonry walls at the exterior and three catenary shaped tri-chord pipe trussed stairs / ramps that connect the "canyon floors."

Civil engineering services included the rerouting of major drainage systems to the site as well as coordination with adjacent site uses.
