GOING GREEN IN FLORIDA

M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction
University of Florida

Gainesville, Florida

We provided structural design for the first entirely green building on the campus and in Florida. The design minimizes the structural components’ environmental impact in accordance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) standards.

A steel frame was selected, following a series of alternate framing studies, for its efficient use of materials and speed of construction. The facility includes offices, classrooms and research spaces. The $8.2-million, four-story facility is part of the main campus.

Rinker Hall was completed in 2002 and received a LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
