A FACILITY THAT
MAKES MUSEUM HISTORY

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum
Austin, Texas

Texas history comes alive in a museum that has a government building sensibility and a learning center’s engaging spirit. Visitors love the four-level-high IMAX theater, three levels of exhibit space, the museum store and the Texas Spirit Theater with three stages.

We selected an economical, easy-to-build cast-in-place concrete system for the below grade parking garage and a composite steel frame for the superstructure.

The 178,000 square-foot museum features a 110-foot high, 60-foot diameter, sky-lit rotunda and two structured landscaped plazas.

The museum is supported by a two-and-a-half-level, 190,000-square-foot, cast-in-place concrete parking garage. The below-grade parking, the curved copper perimeter roof and the granite cladding support presented structural challenges and intensive detail effort.
