High-rise Courthouse

Sam M. Gibbons
U.S. Federal Courthouse

Tampa, Florida

This 240,000-square-foot federal facility houses 1,164 employees and provides 19 courtrooms for the district, magistrate, bankruptcy, and circuit courts. It includes 54,000 square feet of secure inside parking.

The Sam M. Gibbons Federal Courthouse was the first project selected by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for participation in a pilot program to encourage conversion to the international metric system. As a result, the project design and construction documents were produced using the metric system.

To assure an economic and functionally flexible building, Walter P Moore utilized a cast-in-place superstructure for the tower. The facility is also connected via a pedestrian bridge to an adjacent parking garage.
