Award-Winning Structural Solution Stands Tall in Downtown Atlanta

Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center
Atlanta, Georgia

The federal government can make a difference in downtown America with projects like this award winner that provides 1.3 million square feet of office space for 6,000 federal government employees and has helped revitalize downtown Atlanta.

A landscaped public plaza at the heart of this $260.5-million facility connects the four primary project components: the historic and newly renovated Rich’s Building, an eight-story building that provides a bridge between a 10-story building and a 24-story office building.

Project amenities include a day-care center, cafeteria, clinic, fitness center, conference and training center, libraries and a 1,600-car parking garage, all built integrally with the tower components.

Our design for the 56,000-square-foot mat foundation was the first soil-supported mat of its kind for a tall building in Atlanta. This innovative solution saved several weeks of construction time compared to a deep foundation system.
