H-GAC West Houston Mobility Plan

Houston
Texas

Unusual mobility conditions extend across the 180-square mile study area that covers three of west Houston’s Major Activity Centers (Westchase District, Memorial City, and The Energy Corridor), as well as two reservoirs owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The study area is anticipated to experience an unprecedented development boom with over 13 million square feet of new office space and 2,000 new multifamily residential units. Due to this growth, additional stress will be placed on many roadways that are already near or above their traffic capacity. Our team identified capital projects that will work to enhance mobility connectivity, add vehicular capacity and facilitate a long-term modal shift that will remove single-occupant-vehicles from the roadways by providing viable transit, bicycle and pedestrian linkages to major origins and destinations. We provided recommendations that will work to enhance the region’s ability to offset future mobility changes and embrace the opportunities for continued economic growth that lies ahead.
