McKinney Place effectively blends high-quality parking with two levels of retail. The 13-story, 1,214-space garage has provided much-needed parking capacity in the heart of downtown Houston.
The garage sits at a crucial location above Houston’s downtown pedestrian tunnel network. An accelerated approach minimized tunnel closure time during construction, and the tunnel was reopened to pedestrian traffic even as the upper levels of the garage were constructed.
An efficient post-tensioned slab and girder system was selected for construction economy and long-term durability of the garage. Long-term flexibility was built in by designing the retail levels for increased live loads of up to 150 pounds per square foot and by using a mild reinforced slab to readily accommodate future slab penetrations.
