Puerto Rico Convention Center
San Juan, Puerto Rico

This innovative project is a catalyst for the new Convention Center District. The distinctive roof with its “sea wave” forms is featured prominently in tourism and advertising campaigns for Puerto Rico.

This 580,000-square-foot facility features a 150,000-square-foot exhibit hall, with a 40,000-square-foot ballroom “stacked” above. This configuration provides fantastic views of the water.

The ballroom is designed to minimize vibrations from dancing and other rhythmic activities, despite being supported on column bays of 90 feet by 150 feet. The Exhibit Hall below features column-free spaces of up to 150 feet by 270 feet.

The signature steel shell roof spans 350 feet, supporting areas of glass skylight as well as an 80-foot tall glass curtainwall system, all of which are designed to resist Category 5 hurricane force winds and Zone 3 seismic loads.
