Duck Creek Erosion Control Phase III
Richardson, Texas
Duck Creek Erosion Control Phase III consisted of erosion remediation of six concrete weirs, creation of two ponds, establishment of five duck habitat areas and updating of the existing out-of-date FEMA hydraulic model. We combined our erosion control expertise with our Hydrology and Hydraulics capabilities and brought in a landscape architect to provide the duck habitat design.
The resulting design had a stone slab cascade rather than the stamped concrete design of the previous phases. Concrete aprons were replaced with buried gabion mattress overlain with a permanent geosynthetic erosion mat and planted with vegetation capable of withstanding the wet conditions with periodic overtopping.
