Giving the Green Light to Traffic Improvements

Our participation in the Regional Computerized Traffic Signal System — a $120M METRO project designed to upgrade and network 2800 City of Houston and Harris County signals — brings these traffic improvements up to speed.

The project includes video detection, red light running indicators, 2070 upgrades, central control processing and multiple methods of interconnect that include twisted wire pair, fiber optics, spread spectrum, CDPD and CDMA. We provided signal design, development and implementation of signal timing plans and preparation of field books for almost 200 signals. Work included development of controller and cabinet testing plans and procedures.

We also developed signal inventory database requirements and a GIS-based signal inventory database. We conducted an Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) Marketplace Assessment to assess current market products and their applicability for RCTSS.
