The Roy E. Kelly Intermodal Center, located in downtown Bryan, serves as the downtown transfer point, as a hub for intercity bus service, and as a parking facility for downtown transit patrons. Walter P Moore provided civil, structural, and traffic engineering and parking consulting services for the new transit terminal and parking facility. The garage provides direct access to the transit facility, retail and offices. The project will aesthetically conform to the City of Bryan’s streetscape design requirements implemented as part of the renovated Historic Main Street of downtown. The facility contains offices, an intercity bus carrier, and Brazos County Community Supervision and Corrections. Phase 1 included the construction of the transit terminal, including a passenger waiting area, restrooms, and vending area; a 600-space parking garage; and offices. Phase II included increasing the parking garage to 900-spaces.

The north façade of the garage features multiple steel stairs that appear to “float” off the side of the garage. Walter P Moore worked closely with the precast supplier to coordinate steel stair loads and connections points on the precast structure, and this coordination resulted in no erection problems during construction.

The garage provides contract and visitor parking to the terminal, office, and retail space as well as the existing courthouse and special events. As a result, a flexible parking equipment system was designed to provide a balanced parking operation. The revenue system includes both Pay on Foot machines as well as cashiers to pay at the exit.
