Baylor College of Medicine

Houston, Texas

Our services for this major renovation and expansion at Baylor's Texas Medical Center campus will allow it to position itself as a world leader in the field of genetic diseases, including geno-engineering.

The 82,000-square-foot Margaret M. Alkek Building for Biomedical Research accommodates 40,000 to 50,000 mice cages and space for other primates at Baylor. Structural accommodations were made in the design for the future Baylor Research Tower to be placed on top of the underground facility.

The 182,000-gross-square-foot vertical expansion for the Baylor Research Tower is located directly above the vivarium expansion, providing a direct connection from research space to animal housing.

The two vivarium floors will be operated as a strict barrier with sterile supply of all animal husbandry equipment. Construction on the $65 million project will be completed in two phases.
