A Cure for an Old Building

Stowers Institute for Medical Research
Kansas City, Missouri

Converting the old Menorah Hospital in Kansas City to the $100 million Stowers Institute for Medical Research gives new life to the building and patients, too.

The facility includes a six-story, 190,000-square-foot reinforced concrete research complex, a four-story administrative building and 600-space parking garage. An auditorium for approximately 250 people occupies much of the first floor of the new wing, in addition to conference and symposium rooms. The existing hospital structure on the west side was renovated into an additional laboratory and office space.
