The Pyramid
Memphis, Tennessee

This 320-foot tall venue is a 60% scale model of the Great Pyramid of Cheops and is the third largest pyramid in the world. We took advantage of the pyramidal shape of the structure to develop a very efficient structural roof framing system.

The system features four sloping box trusses which connect at the vertex of the pyramid. The roof structure spans over 500 feet to provide a column-free space of over half a million square feet.

The 22,000-seat multi-purpose facility is home to the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies and the NCAA's University of Memphis basketball team.

For the firm’s innovative work on the project, we received the "Eminent Conceptor" award from the CEC-Texas, and Larry Griffis was nominated as "Construction Man of the Year" by ENR magazine.
