1960s-VINTAGE HIGH-RISE GETS AN EXTREME MAKEOVER
FaÇade Recladding of 44-Story Office Tower
Houston, Texas
Periodic condition assessments of this 44-story, 41-year-old building façade since 1998 have identified existing overhead hazards, locations of distress in the marble panels and corrosion of the connection clips.
Our comprehensive façade assessment aided the development of repair options in 2001. We directed exploratory demolition and worked with the project team to construct two mock-ups—stone and metal panel—to help the owner determine the desired repair.
We provided façade engineering services for this comprehensive $23 million recladding effort, including construction administration services for the demolition, repair and reattachment of the new kynar coated metal panel cladding. Recladding on the first level consisted of replacing the damaged marble with granite panels.
