Rock formations found in the American West are nature’s response to the environmental demands of wind and water. Countless centuries of erosion have left only the most efficiently shaped self-stabilizing tall rock formations standing. At 60 stories and 1135 feet tall, “The Cubes” exterior form applies this important lesson from nature by rotating 10 story tall modules, or cubes, by 45 degrees, and by allowing the wind to blow through and disrupt organized airflow through the building in between the rotated modules.

Inspiration

The inspiration is drawn from studying rock outcroppings in the Western U.S. that have stabilized into the most efficient shape to withstand environmental effects.
The science looks at simple building blocks.
Even infants start to understand the concept
of structural stability by stacking cubes in an
alternating manner.
