Le Lis combines the simplicity and strength of an expressed steel perimeter braced frame with an articulated cladding system to create an 82-story tower that promotes sustainability in the form of a living flower. A large atrium at the peak is topped with a porous solar reflecting dish. This dish is the fruit of Le Lis, focusing the sun’s energy with movable mirrors, or heliostats, on heat pipes to create pressurized steam. The steam spins turbines located within the blossom to generate much of the energy to power the building. Rainwater infiltrates through the porous dish to a rainwater collection system below.

Inspiration

The inspiration is drawn from the beauty of a lily, focusing on the blossoming, growth, rainwater collection, and solar dependency aspects of this flower.
The science is applied through studying the
germination process from seed, to bulb, to lily.
