Beltway 8 Tollway Bridge Repair
The Sam Houston Tollway Bridge and direct connectors to US Highway 290 were experiencing varying cracking patterns on concrete elements. Material testing and nondestructive testing were conducted to study the possible causes and ramifications of the weakening. Based on the investigation findings, Walter P Moore developed repairs for the treatment of severe premature concrete deterioration including crack fillers, application of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, and coating for the concrete bent columns. An application of concrete penetrating sealers was recommended for less severe premature concrete deterioration on some of the beams.
