PLANNING FOR
LIGHT RAIL EXPANSION

Southeast Corridor Major Investment Study
Houston, Texas

When Houston's METRO was considering adding to its light rail capacity for a METRORail Southeast Corridor, our traffic engineers provided useful, detailed analyses.

We evaluated the impact of proposed street-level light rail alternatives on existing streets and intersections, establishing and testing existing and design year traffic volume scenarios with Highway Capacity Manual methods. We evaluated the traffic impacts of elevated, at-grade and subway options in downtown Houston. We also conducted analyses of traffic signal operations for various options and proposed alternative intersection treatments to mitigate locations with poor operations.
