KEEPING THE FLOW FLOWING

FM 66 and FM 1446 Underpasses at ih35e
Ellis County, TeXas

What was both new and adequate on the I35 corridor in Texas in the early 1990s isn’t today. The responsibility for bringing this corridor into the 21st-century Texas economy lies with the Texas Department of Transportation. And us.

When the FM 66 and FM 1446 underpasses at IH35E just west of Waxahachie were replaced at the beginning of the 1990s, there was no need for continuous left-turn lanes onto the bridges over the interstate. Of course, there was no North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) then. And Waxahachie wasn’t absorbing a steady flow of residents who wanted to be near but not in Dallas and Fort Worth.

As part of a broad package of transportation services for TxDOT, we provided roadway and bridge design for these two prime intersections. We also designed the necessary retaining walls and drainage systems, developed plans for traffic control and construction sequencing, and managed the work of the surveying subcontractor.
