Utility Improvement and Transportation Master Plan

Located in the heart of Houston’s museum district, Rice University is a 285-acre urban, tree-lined campus that includes a network of narrow, restricted-access roadways, surface parking lots for students, staff, and visitors. Walter P Moore’s relationship with Rice University goes back over 50 years beginning with the iconic Rice Stadium. Since then, we have been involved in multiple master planning efforts ranging from utilities, to streets and parking, to landscaping and development standards. The campus infrastructure master plan is anchored by our identification of the needs of the wastewater and storm sewer systems serving the campus. Similar work addressing pavement conditions and water systems are also used to address annual maintenance plans. Walter P Moore also worked with Rice University planners to develop a new traffic and parking master plan intended to improve both pedestrian and vehicular mobility and parking throughout the campus. Improvements included new traffic patterns and related traffic controls, new parking space layouts, and a parking master plan for future facilities.
