Daniel Carrera Honored with TSPE’s Young Engineer of the Year Award

The El Paso Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) will present its 53rd annual Young Engineer of the Year Award to Daniel Carrera, PE in February of this year. This honor serves to recognize Carrera's technical ability and professional achievements, as well as his civic and humanitarian activities.

Carrera is an Associate and Senior Engineer in Walter P Moore's El Paso office. Carrera has contributed to several significant engineering projects in El Paso and throughout the state specializing in traffic studies, illumination design, traffic signal design, striping, sidewalk/ramp design, and ITS design. 

Additionally, he is a director for the TSPE El Paso Chapter and president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Younger Member Group, El Paso branch in addition to serving as the practitioner advisor for the UTEP ASCE student chapter the past four years and serves as a Miner Ambassador. 

Carrera is passionate about promoting STEM and presents at area schools to get young El Pasoans excited about pursuing engineering professions. He also serves on the Career and Technical Education (CTE) advisory boards of various school districts and works closely with teachers and administrators to provide mentorship opportunities to students.

“Being named the TSPE Young Engineer of the Year is such an amazing honor for me,” Carrera says. “I’m humbled and honored to be recognized for my efforts throughout the community. I am a huge believer in mentorship, passing on knowledge to others, and helping people. Winning this award will not slow those efforts down. This will definitely help me in my career as I grow within my field, organizations, and the community.” 

FUN FACT: Carrera is a Team leader in children's ministry at his local church.
