May 15, 2019

Walter P Moore Senior Associate and Traffic Engineer, Kurt Rotering, has been chosen as KSPE Eastern Chapter’s 2019 Young Engineer of the Year. Joining the industry in 2007, Rotering operates out of the firm’s Kansas City office. Tasked with leading and managing traffic engineering efforts for private, municipal, and state clients throughout the Midwest, he has been instrumental in building the firm’s projects throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and North Dakota.

Rotering has been an active member of Kansas Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE) Eastern Chapter since 2017 and joined the board as Treasurer in 2018. Kurt’s contributions include cultivating content for and creating the Engineers Week presentation given annually for both the Kansas City and Metro chapters. Additionally, he was influential in migrating event sign-ups to online, which largely increased member convenience and reduced the time expended by event coordinators.

Actively involved in industry organizations, he has also been heavily involved in the Missouri Valley Chapter of ITE (MOVITE) since 2008 serving as Missouri Director, MOVITE Planning Committee Chair, and on the Awards Committee. Recently inducted as president for ITS Heartland, he has previously served as Secretary and Vice President, as well as continued involvement in their award-winning TSMO Train the Trainer program. In addition, he has served as both President and Webmaster for the Kansas Association on Uniform Traffic Control (KAUTC).

Moore About Kurt
Born and raised in the small town of Hettinger, North Dakota, Kurt moved to Manhattan, Kansas where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University. While living in Manhattan, Kurt met his wife at a date auction to raise money for a mutual friend. Although Lori did not bid on Kurt, she still caught his eye.

Kurt’s professional career began when he assisted in surveying and performed construction inspection as a summer job during his college years before ultimately finding his true love, traffic engineering. To further his career, Kurt and his wife moved to the growing metropolis of Kansas City where he found his way to Walter P Moore. Outside of work, Kurt and Lori live in Overland Park, Kansas with their energetic and smiley 1-year-old daughter, Vivian, and a dog. Kurt enjoys traveling, basketball, and completing a never-ending honey-do list.
