This 12-story office and fitness complex will be added to the booming Santana Row Shopping Area. This area of the Silicon Valley has seen a major influx of new tech tenants. The combination of a large fitness center adjacent to an office tower will be appealing to many potential tenants. In all, the complex will house almost 1 million square feet of new construction including the adjacent Lifetime gym, 275,000 square feet of office, ground-level retail, and a 1,300 stall parking garage.
Walter P Moore is providing structural engineering and parking consulting for office tower and adjacent standalone parking structure. The parking garage will be seismically separated from the office tower although vehicles and pedestrians will easily circulate between both buildings. This approach reduced the total amount of structural concrete walls and foundation sizes in both buildings.
The parking structure is designed with a hybrid-span parking garage. This system uses a 45-foot span post-tensioned wide-shallow beam system to easily span the drive isle and one parking stall. This system increases the amount of parking stalls without the need for additional concrete floor slab. The integration of our parking and structural services allowed us to realize this solution.
Earthquake resistance of the office tower will be provided by a concrete shear wall core. The office floors will span from this central core a full 45 feet to the perimeter of the tower using a post-tensioned wide-shallow beam system. The owner and architect were pleased with the spans and are certain future office tenants will appreciate the open floor plan. Lastly, several notable outdoor spaces will be included on many of the office floors which will gracefully cantilever nearly 15 feet from the structural columns.
