H-E-B Center at Cedar Park

Cedar Park
Texas

Home to the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars, NBA Development League’s Austin Spurs, as well as the World Team Tennis’ Austin Aces, the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park is a popular sports venue located just north of Austin. Seating 6,800 fans for hockey games, the venue was built to be a multipurpose event center with the ability to hold up to 8,700 guests for other types of events.

Starting in late 2007, the project design kicked off with the intent of maintaining a very aggressive schedule. Walter P Moore issued a Structural Bid Package in March of 2008 approximately 3 months prior to the rest of the Construction Documents to aid in meeting this accelerated schedule. Ground broke in June 2008 and the project opened just 15 months later in September 2009.

The structure is a steel braced frame with pre-cast seating units for the seating bowl. The primary roof spans 203 feet with bowstring trusses that are 22’-6” deep at the centerline of chords (23’-9” overall depth). Open-web steel joists span 36 to 40 feet between the primary trusses. There is a catwalk and event rigging level at the bottom chord of the roof trusses with 125,000 lbs of rigging capacity for the center stage configuration and 150,000 lbs of capacity for the end stage configuration.
