Hospital Third-Party Building Enclosure Review

The UNC REX Healthcare Heart & Vascular Hospital project comprises a nine-story bed tower with adjacent four-story diagnostic and treatment building connected to the northwest portion of the existing hospital. This center will consolidate services presently offered at seven locations throughout the UNC Healthcare System. Walter P Moore performed periodic design review and assist services throughout the design phase, and provided performance modeling of proposed wall assemblies to inform the design process. Our analysis supplemented the project designer’s review. We looked at the project drawings and specifications for building enclosure system performance, constructability, and durability. We provided a report that featured the typical exterior conditions including the curtain wall, cavity wall and expansion joint details. We also assisted with oversight of the testing protocol and administration, and are currently providing periodic construction observation services for the waterproofing, window, and facade elements.
