Katy Independent School District Legacy Stadium
Katy Independent School District Legacy Stadium
Increasing demand for another stadium in the fast-growing district of Katy has led to the construction of a new 12,000 seat Katy ISD Legacy Stadium next to the existing Rhodes Memorial Stadium. Both the stadiums are part of Academy Sports + Outdoors Student Activities Complex. The new state-of-the-art, multi-purpose venue helps to alleviate scheduling conflicts and allows more home games. Legacy stadium serves 73,000 students in 63 schools and features two-story press boxes and a 1,500 sq ft scoreboard.
Legacy Stadium also features an iconic curved exterior façade on the west side and a sloping façade on the east side. Walter P Moore provided details that simplified the complex geometry into modular pieces that were easy to erect in the field.
The precast seating bowl is supported on cast-in-place rakers, round concrete columns and architecturally significant precast vomitory walls that are narrower at the base and provide a large open concourse space.
A new 40,000 sq ft, two-story Field House includes locker rooms, offices, high school hall of fame and a large column-free assembly area.
