Nevada State College Nursing Building

Henderson
Nevada

Nevada State College embarked on an ambitious expansion plan that included the construction of the home of Nursing Sciences. The nursing building includes laboratories, classrooms, a 250-seat auditorium, and an observatory, all of which will serve the Nursing School as well as others on campus.

During the project, the team adapted to the introduction of newer building codes. In the codes, the seismic forces and requirements for the building were reduced. Walter P Moore reconfigured and significantly reduced the amount of braces in the building as well as eased the steel detailing requirements. These changes saved the owner hundreds of thousands of dollars and provided the architect more freedom with the space.

With a construction cost estimate of $15 million, ground was broken for this three-story building in early 2014, and was completed in July 2015, on time for the fall semester.
