Northwest Corridor Signal System Improvements Phases I & II

Houston
Texas

As part of the Houston’s transportation planning operation, the Regional Computerized Traffic Signal System (RCTSS) permits signal preemption for emergency vehicles and coordinates priority signal operations for buses that need to maintain schedules. The program, designed by Harris County, METRO, City of Houston, and the Texas Department of Transportation includes synchronization of over 3,000 individual intersections. Over two phases, WPM was able to assist this effort on 182 signal locations in the Northwest Corridor. This involved preparation of signal inventory, gathering of field data, subsystem grouping, cost estimates, enhancements and/or new installations of intersection vehicular detection devices, intersection field cable, and communications conduit routes.
