Omni Hotel at Truist Park Solar Reflectivity Study

Atlanta
Georgia

Walter P Moore provided a solar reflectivity study for the Omni Hotel at Truist Park (formerly SunTrust Park). The Atlanta Braves, and the building owner were concerned that the reflectivity of the glass may result in sunlight reflecting into the batters eyes during baseball games in the fall. Walter P Moore completed a parametric computer modeling study of the facility to evaluate the sun path from reflected sunlight during the baseball season. The computer model included Truist Park, the Omni hotel, and the adjacent office building.

The solar reflectivity modeling was completed with and without the adjacent office building. Walter P Moore provided a graphical report to the client showing the sun path and incidence of reflected light within the playing surface, which allowed the Atlanta Braves to evaluate the potential impact and confirm compliance with MLB requirements. The study was able to provide confidence to the architectural design team for the hotel, and to the Atlanta Braves that reflected light form the hotel will not impact baseball operations.
