Propelling Downtown Forward

Propelling Downtown Forward arose from the leadership efforts of 64.6 Downtown to coalesce real estate development, arts and culture, job creation, placemaking, as well as public and private investment decisions through unified planning efforts. This master plan implementation tool and governance structure serves as a business plan for Downtown’s future.

Walter P Moore provided traffic engineering and transportation planning services the plan. Using context sensitive design principles and a systems-level approach, Walter P Moore developed and analyzed concepts to integrate alternative modes of transportation through the Downtown area while promoting walkability and accessibility. These included truck route realignment, bicycle network connectivity, on-street parking, and a wider pedestrian realm. The project included an analysis of four focus area plans with key linkages including enhanced streets and trails, identification of activation areas as well as gateways and key corridor enhancement areas.

Walter P Moore analyzed existing traffic demands for various project phases, developed cost estimates, and provided guidance for form-based design regulations and coordinated city-initiated tools and policies.
