Sheppard Air Force Base Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training
Sheppard Air Force Base Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training
The new Euro Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) Facility at Sheppard Air Force Base is the world’s only multi-nationally manned and managed flying training program chartered to produce combat pilots for NATO. This 42,000 SF building houses offices, classrooms, and a 492-seat auditorium. The project also included an 85-space parking lot.
The project involved site work on five acres of a larger site, the majority of which is located within the 100-year flood plain. The activities associated with this site work included site grading, paving, utility installation, and vehicular and pedestrian circulation design. Walter P Moore also provided a drainage study to obtain the LEED stormwater quantity point as part of the government requirement to not increase runoff. Open detention is not permitted as it creates bird strike hazards for the jets.
Drainage from the parking areas and building are collected onsite via vegetated swales and are routed to the northeast portion of the site. Limited culverts are utilized to convey drainage under walkways.
The project is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and achieved LEED Silver certification.
