Springwoods Holzwarth Bridge

Springwoods Village, located just north of Houston adjacent to a main transportation artery (IH-45), will encompass multiple neighborhoods and businesses. Located in the development, Holzwarth Bridge is a series of three pre-stressed concrete U-beam bridges on Holzwarth Road. These structures function as a grade separation for UPRR and an overpass for the Grand Parkway (SH 99) main lanes, as well as crossing underneath CenterPoint Energy aerial power lines. Crossing these easements required close coordination with multiple agencies such as UPRR, CenterPoint Energy, Texas Department of Transportation, and the Grand Parkway design-build team. The aesthetics required collaboration with the developers in order to achieve their vision for this overpass and familiarity with the requirements for Grand Parkway. Our final design resulted in a cost savings of $2.5 million and increased speed of construction satisfying the owner’s requirement that the bridge be constructed within the first quarter of 2014.
